Chair: Kevin Sloots

Kevin has been a member of SIB since 2018 and is currently in the final stages of his second masters in political philosophy. Before chairing MUNDUNSA, Kevin has been a long member of the committee and has frequently followed programmes in diplomacy and negotiation by third-party institutions. Examples include The Young Diplomat and an intense course at the UvA by members of the Dialogue Advisory Group, who specialise in peace negotiations. ''I've followed like a dozen extra courses related to international relations and MUNDUNSA is the perfect place to bring everything together. After five years of study, I realised my analytical skills are impressive, but qualities preferred in professional life are often disregarded in the education of students. That's why I call this year's committee 'MUNDUNSA New Style': this is the first year the committee employs a course-like method in teaching and practicing essential skills for management positions in the diplomatic and business. No other association in Amsterdam periodically teaches you persuasive speech in one week and tools for managing a political crisis in the next''.

Established in 2018, MUNDUNSA is a delegation that teaches students the theory and practice of public speaking, (crisis) negotiation and leadership. Where other debate teams merely focus on public speaking, MUNDUNSA is the only delegation in Amsterdam that structurally teaches students vital skills necessary for their professional life.

The delegation

MUNDUNSA consists of a group of ambitious and inspired students who are eager to step outside of their comfort zone. Together, they form a delegation of young professionals who practice weekly how to speak with impact and convince others, settle a difference of opinion and mediate a conflict situation. The delegation is focused on self-development, meaning the members teach each other the skills they find important with the assistance of academic literature and (guest) lectures.

On top of that, theory is put right into practice by means of fun exercises and simulations.

Though these skills could be learned in other ways, MUNDUNSA is a fun and social way to do so. When the mood is right, they finish with a borrel in their Sociëteit.

Model United Nations

Several times per year, the delegation goes to student conferences that simulate a diplomatic event as close to real-life as possible. They represent a country in various international political issues and compete against the best.

The delegation aims to stand out from the crowd not by being the biggest talker or the know-it-all, but by showing refined, yet extraordinary diplomacy skills. The conferences are optional, but they are one of the most memorable moments in your student life!

This academic year, we are going to University College London MUN in November, Harvard National MUN in February, AUC MUN in April and we host our own conference in May.

Previous conferences attended by the Delegation include:

  • The Olympics of Model UN, WorldMUN in Madrid (18 – 22 March 2019). (The committee was also all set to go to the WorldMUN in Tokyo in March 2020, but had to cancel due to the pandemic).

  • In the preparatory track for Madrid and Tokyo, we will be participated in HamMUN (29 November – 2 December) 2018 and 2019.

  • Moreover, the delegation provides and engages in trainings leading up to the MUN’s at least fortnightly. These training sessions revolve around learning the rules of procedure, MUN etiquette, public speaking, negotiation and rhetoric.
